The Maoist Question

With politicians of all political hues calling the Maoists to the negotiating table, will the ultra-Left outfit finally give up arms for development? Or will they continue the low-intensity conflict and the War against the State?

  1. Generally, the Maoists approach is the strategy of protracted people’s war. According to them, it is the only correct and appropriate strategy for dealing with a superior enemy by taking advantage of the weak infrastructure in backward areas, a huge agrarian population, and the dog-fights among the ruling classes.

It is really interesting now---why are the Maoists suddenly turning into the peace mode? Or, how did the Maoists decide within 48 hours of President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s appeal to them to shun violence and come forward for peace talks?

Has the organisation changed its principal ideology, and is it now trying to give peace a try over its protracted people’s war? The sudden change in the organisation’s doctrines is adding to the confusion.
